Oils for Kids: How Oliver & Owen Use Young Living Every Day

Christopher Opfer • April 29, 2025

Hey YL Family! Let’s be real—kids have big feelings, busy days, and growing bodies that sometimes need alittle extra love and support. That’s why we’re sograteful to have essential oils as part ofour daily routine—not just for us as parents, but for our boys, Oliver and Owen, too.

If you’ve ever wondered, “Are essential oils safe for kids?” or “How do I even use them with my family?” — you’re in the right place. In this post, we’re sharing the best Young Living oils for kids, how we use them with our own boys, and some fun, easy ways to get your littles involved too!

Why Use Essential Oils with Kids?

Kids are amazing, but they also experience:

  • Emotional ups and downs (hello, tantrums or test anxiety)
  • Sleep struggles
  • Focus challenges
  • Growing pains
  • Immune system hiccups

Essential oils offer gentle, natural support to help balance all of those big kid moments — without harsh chemicals or artificial frag rances. And when you make them part of your family's rhythm, they become something kids can actually look forward to!

The Best Essential Oils for Kids

Here are some of our family favorites — all of them kid-friendly, mom-approved, and Young Living pure:

KidScents® Line

Young Living created this line specifically for kids, and we LOVE it. Each oil is pre-diluted and ready to use right out of the bottle.

  • GeneYus– Supports focus and concentration during school or homework time.
  • SleepyIze – A gentle nighttime blend that helps calm the mind and body.
  • SniffleEase –Perfect for seasonal sniffles and stuffed-up noses.
  • Owie – A must-have for scrapes, bumps, and everyday adventures.
  • TummyGize – Soothes little tummies when they’ve had a bit too much fun or food. (We also use this oil as adults too because it’s so effective!)

How Oliver & Owen Use Oils Every Day

Every day in our home starts and ends with oils — and Oliver and Owen are all about it!

Here’s a little peek into their oily routines:

  • Morning
  • GeneYus goes on the back of their necks before school to help them focus and feel ready to learn.
  • A few deep breaths of Peppermint or Orange to help wake up sleepy brains.
  • Sometimes we roll a drop of Valor or our “Happy Oils” (Valor, Harmony, Joy, White Angelica) on their wrists for confidence before a test or big day!

  • After School
  • If they’re feeling overwhelmed or grumpy, we diffuse Peace & Calming or let them sniff it right from the bottle.
  • A drop of TummyGize helps if they’re feeling off after snack time (or sneaking one too many cookies).

  • Bedtime
  • We rub SleepyIze on their feet as part of our wind-down routine. Actually, let’s be honest here. The boys use their SleepyIze Roll On all by themselves. We know when that awesome relaxing aroma comes drifting down the hall, Oliver and Owen are drifting off to a great night’s sleep.
  • We sometimes might diffuse a mix of Lavender + Cedarwood in their room to help them sleep soundly.

How Oils Help Kids Every Day

Using oils with kids isn’t just about sweet smells — it’s about:

  • Teaching them to check in with their emotions
  • Supporting their health and immune system naturally
  • Creating routines that make them feel safe and supported
  • Replacing toxic stuff with gentle, plant-based alternatives

And let’s be honest — oils can also work a little magic when a meltdown is brewing or sleep seems far, far away.

A Few Tips for Using Oils with Kids

  • Always dilute for the really little ones! Even pre-diluted oils can be gentler when mixed with a carrier oil, especially for littlest in our lives.
  • For the real littles, you can also put a drop of oil in your hand, rub your hands together until dry, and hold their feet.
  • Let them choose. Giving kids a say in which oil they want makes it more fun (and more effective!).
  • Stay consistent. Daily routines help oils work their best — and help kids know what to expect.
  • Make it fun! Let them roll it on themselves, make up nicknames for their oils, or decorate roller bottles.

Final Thoughts: Oils + Kids = A Happy, Healthy Combo

ssential oils have brought so much joy, calm, and connection into our family — especially for Oliver and Owen. They’re part of our rhythm, our toolbox, and our memories. From bedtime snuggles to homework sessions, there’s an oil for every moment.
